1c5d7n5m Pillar of the Community Belgium 1185 Posts	Posted 07/28/2019 06:02 am almost forgot to post my first coins of a great couple (more will follow during the next 3 weeks); they almost look "cool" together on the coins of those days Isabella Clara Eugenia of Spain, "Infanta" of Philip II, and Albert VII of Austria, Archduke of Austria, rulers of the Spanish Netherlands from 1598-1621 1619 Ducaton and 1619 Half Ducaton, both minted in Antwerp Albert and Isabella were talented rulers and greatly loved by the people of the Spanish Netherlands. Their 23 year reign brought back prosperity and even peace to a region that was utterly devastated and degraded by an ugly period of 40 years of war (when we walk back in time we'll see the details). A 12 year truce (1609-1621) was made between the Spanish Netherlands and the Northern Provinces (the Dutch Republic, also ruled by talented people like Johan van Oldenbarneveld). The costly machinery of warfare could be put aside (for some time). It was time for restoring a battered society. As this happened, the fertile soil came back for science and arts. On one side of the coins was to be his image and on the other side the arms of the city.
