Louis XIII was crowned so young because his father, Henri IV le Grand died on the 14th of May 1610. The assassination of Henri IV was a major political event in the religious wars that plagued Europe, in particular France, the low Countries and Germany for decades. below two examples of a 1610 jeton from the United Provinces, Dordrecht mint, made shortly after the assassination. Henri IV was admired in the Dutch republic because he advocated freedom of religion in France. Moreover, he played an important role in the making of the 12 year truce between the Spanish Netherlands and the Dutch Republic (1609-1621) Obv. two doves amoureux above a bible RELIGIO. AMOREM. S. C. Rev. a wolf with a Jesuit hat (Ravailhac) attacks a sheep (king Henri IV) NON. CAEDES . FOVET. and the date CIC. Here is a Thaler from the German Duchy of Saxe-Weimar dated AD 1610. I know that some folks collect these (as opposed to me who am focused on getting OFEY on the cheap), but the feel of an old silver Thaler like this one is pretty intoxicating.   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."
