just back in time for some none-siggi copper .  1607: peace negotiations between the United Provinces and the Spanish Netherlands have started; it would take two years to obtain an agreement Dugn.3619, United Provinces, Harderwijk mint of Ghelders 'Hope for Peace' Dugn.3620 United Provinces, Middelburg mint (Zeeland) 'Negotiations started' The obverse shows a front line (in Zeeuws Vlaanderen; where hostilities were intense during the previous years) with the two enemies on either side of trenches and fortifications Dugn.3622 Spanish Netherlands, Antwerpen mint of Brabant 'No truce yet' The reverse is very interesting, a real provocation of the Southern Netherlands (depicted as a lion) to the Northern Dutch Republic (a barking little dog that even today is called 'keeshondje') RESPICE FINEM 1607 ("this is how it ends") this is one of my favorite jetons that summarizes the propaganda value of these little pieces of copper    |

Those political jetons seem to indicate a level of tolerance for freedom of speech/expression which I find interesting for that time. And the idea of Brussels as a port ... let's just say this reminds us that some aspects of geography can change over time (Rome was also a port a t one time) I think 1606 is my earliest grosz/groschen of Sigismund III. I will have mostly trojaks between 1605 and 1588.   |

The Jahweh symbol on the reverse also appears regularly on jetons from the United Provinces (tomorrow I'll post more examples). Does anyone know examples from other countries? |

Must be the lighting. It is a little more grey than it appears in the image. I'll post a four mark piece tomorrow.
Next day - I added a second image of the 1 mark to the original post (above) which is closer to the true color. The 4 mark piece is now posted below.

 Nice to see an English coin here! 1605 Poland trojak (3 groschen), Krakow mint. (The coin was received in a pristine 2 x 2 so I got lazy and photographed without opening).   |
