Meow, we are glad you are here. Myself, even when I was a kid in school, never could understand why peer pressure was anything people cared about. If someone would not befriend me b/c I did not conform to their wishes, then it was obvious they would never be a true friend anyway as they were too busy forcing others to do their bidding. Its ridiculous. I feel sorry for people like that in fact b/c when they need someone to help, they have no real friends. I live in an area where people are nice, but pretty much if you step out of traditional thinking patterns, they just don't know how to handle it. Its a srouce of fun to me. The looks on the local peoples' faces is priceless when they find out my dog is named Kitty ... "But that's a ...dog!" "And?" Then I introduce them to Puppy. He is one of my cats. The hobby is about fun - and fun is defined differently for each person. Keep on proudly meowing b/c there are plenty of us here who don't mind. This from the melancholy phlegmatic mind of a former (primarily) math and science teacher

Thanks, Meow was seriously offended and was considering leaving. Meow thought this place was all about getting together and discussing a hobby we all love. Who knew that even coin forums had people who gain from putting down others.

Quote: So would you rather Meow not be here? Well honestly I have gotten many requests to add an ignore member mod to the forum. Just sayin. So silverwolf isn't the only one that feels this way.

Meow, I've felt insulted in a few threads, a year or so ago when I was still starting to feel my way around the board. Some of that was instigated by me, sometimes it was (or was not) intentioned to have the impact it did. I learned to bite my tongue on certain topics and stay focused on why we're here. Things are much better now.
We all have idiosyncrasies. Sometimes they're easier to overlook than others. Just like I have set aside my personal opinions of those few who rubbed me the wrong way in the past (and these are posters who have earned some respect around here), I hope that others can see how sincere Meow is with the hobby and pay more attention to that.
Meow, if I had left when I felt as bad as I did, I would have limited my learning and lost a valuable resource for the sorts of things that you're asking now and will ask later as you get farther into the hobby. I think it's good to recognize that some of us don't necessarily feel so supportive. Third-cat might be a bit much at times, but I think it's refreshing to have a new personality here, and one who genuinely wants to stay.
Edit to add, on seeing Bobby's follow-up: That's sad to hear. I'd understand one or two such requests; "many" is disappointing. I've said all I can, now.

Is this not all about the love of coin collecting? Now at first, we all ask dumb questions. Many seem to be able to tolerate those noobs, as long they don't keep asking the same dumb question day after day. But to suggest a beginners coin collection is not good enough, or to have such hate for Felines; Is not in the spirit of what Meow thought this forum was about. So Meow will ask, if Meow wants to put this Cats first significant find in a Guardian holder; Why is that not good enough for anyone? It could be worse, Meow could have sent a common circulated penny to get graded at PCGS and showed that off. That might be outright foolish, but why some have to be so impolite about it. Meow is sorry to keep on about this, but it really has upset Meow. After reading all this, why would anyone risk asking a question, or showing what they found?

Quote: ...stay focused on why we're here. That is the most important concern. I will not personally speak of myself in the third person perspective, but really, when reading Meow's posts, it is simple to mentally insert the grammatically correct pronouns if you wish. Other than that, it's about username, and as I pointed out previously, one can make it whatever they wish. That is why I'm not "Squinty." Quote: This from the melancholy phlegmatic mind... I took a test a bit back, and my result was the same. Quote: So Meow will ask, if Meow wants to put this Cats first significant find in a Guardian holder; Why is that not good enough for anyone? I haven't seen the comments that made you feel inferior. I am a low budget collector, so there is nothing I will be dangling over everyone's collective head. Choose the holder that you find appropriate for the coin. My only concern would be if it is 100% coin safe. Beyond that, it is your choice.

Quote: Meow cant understand why that would be? Just because you don't understand doesn't make it less true. Many people find you posting in the third person as a cat, sometimes in every single sentence in a post, very annoying. It's just a fact whether you understand or not.

So in other words, "Your collection is too cheap for nice holders", says one. And the other says "I agree".

Think of it as "Those holders are too much for those coins." Just like you wouldn't pick a picture frame that made a painting look bad, the holders and coins should complement each other. You shouldn't put perfect 70 gold bullion in a $3 cardboard folder. Likewise, you shouldn't put a parking lot coin under glass on your mantle. If you do get an expensive holder, you may find the coin doesn't to justice and you'll look for a better coin. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's probably not what you really want right now.

In all seriousness, Meow is at this moment putting 1970s UNC dimes in nice holders. Is some one here going to call the police on Meow? The charge will be putting cheap coins in too nice of a holder in the first degree. 1970 d Gem BU that is good enough for Cats

Oh, and if Meow obtains a 1949s Gem BU dime in the future. Meow can always open the holder and exchange it with the 1970d. You guys all know that the coin is not permanently in that holder like a graded holder right?

Just to clarify, my request for an ignore function predates Meow and is directed at ignoring others.

Ummmm not to state the obvious but surely you knew some eyebrows would be raised by acting like a cat and talking in the third person. No reason to get offended when not everyone appreciates or sees the humor in it. This is a big forum with a wide array of ages and personalities. Some opinions you may not like and others you may. Big deal either way. That is life in the human world cat.

OK, sigh........Tell ya what, if one person would say you don't want Meow here; Meow will delete all posts and leave. You want Meow gone? Just one person reply here to say so and Meow will be gone. That's a promise.
Meow should of kept Meow's desire to collect coins to Meowself.
