Quote: The first two are just discolored or stained, the zinc is not showing. The color in the pictures are a bit off, but both coins are full reds with a mono tone flat gray spots in the middle. If it is a stain it does not seem to show as corrosion or pitting. Nor does it seem something is on top of the design, like gunk. Guess its nothing special again...... Meow is getting jealous of others, as they find way more neat things than Meow.

Hey kat....what is your source for CRH? If you are just getting some rolls from one bank, or a few rolls from a store, then go elsewhere...you may be "recycling" the same coins. I take it you're in Hawaii, your sources will be limited that way, not too much movement from the mainland. You may have to purchase rolls from somewhere, CCF members, or ebay even to find some good ones. Us here in the states, take me in mid Missouri, will get the collection of a large regional Fed distribution as the KC Region when I purchase a box of bank rolled cents($25). The bigger the return area, see. I did a test for about two years. I marked cents (and nickels), @ 100-200 per box with a magic marker when I returned them. In the two years I NEVER had a box with my marker coins show up. When I was dumping at one bank locally, and getting rolls from another branch, I did find two in two weeks after the dump. This showed that bank was rewrapping their own and selling boxes to the public...the recyclyed cents I'm talking about.

The longer you keep at it, and the more volume you can go through, the more keepers you will find. And you have nine lives worth of time to keep looking. It took me over 189 boxes (not rolls!) of half dollars before I found my 1977-D DDO. I consider myself fortunate to have found it at all. I never did get the rotated die dates I hoped to find before my bank stopped letting me get halves from them. Otherwise I would still be looking

Being in Hawaii will limit how much you find, but you can definitely find some interesting stuff. Being in the Midwest on the main land (Indiana) we can find a lot of stuff here as I have a larger return area, like Butch said. I don't roll hunt that often, but when I do, I can usually find some interesting coins - anything from zinc-rotted LMCs to Cuds. Also, try looking in the Coinstar reject bin when you go to a store that has a Coinstar machine - I recently found a 1910 Lincoln Wheat cent in a reject bin! Meow goes to banks in the area where this Cat happens to be. Today was Meow's first Costco run since Meow started CRH, so Meow went to three banks near there to get a pawful of rolls at each. Did all denominations yesterday from quarters to pennies with not much luck. Meow thinks this Cat got spoiled when the 2nd ever nickel roll had War Nickel, and found 2 confirmed LMC PRMs in the first to week of CRH. Meow is going to try the bulk route and put in a order of 10,000 pennies at the bank to be picked up next week. And if the bank down the street will allow it, Meow will most likely put in future bulk orders. Meow has been hearing one can find neat coins in the coinstars, but every time Meow swipes a paw at it, its always empty.
