@cj84, better pics would definitely help. At first I thought that it was just surface staining, but I'm not very sure anymore that this is the only thing going on with this coin.

At first thought, I thought it was a stain as well, but I'm thinking it's something else.

Thx for posting better pics--the first new one is the best. I think just surface staining, but would like to hear others' thoughts as welll. It doesn't look like anything is raised or below the fields.

If you look all the way to the right on the first picture you will see a small half circle line as well next to the edge.same type of thing except smaller.

looks like maybe glue or something on it. Acetone soak would remove it if that is what it is.........

coinguy- Please crop and orient your pictures as per CCF instructions. I increased the size of your photo to see if we can get a better understanding of what is going on. It appears to me that there is possibly some sort of substance (Glue?) that is covering part of the coin as it looks slightly raised from the surface. Also the fields look smoother on the right side as compared to the left side. Have you tried cleaning it with acetone to see if it will come off.

Yes I have tried cleaning it with acetone but the line seems like it is in the metal not raised or scratched. Not even anything sticky.its engrained into the metal.

Not really sure what it is then. I thought it was raised because when you look at the area on the right side, the rim looks deeper where the opening is. Hopefully some one else has an explanation.

It's in incredibly good condition for the date. I'm guessing it was set aside as an Unc and that it was spent recently because of the staining. I've seen similar staining caused by PVC and bad storage.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
