Dryer coin, worn down in the drum area. Reading worn off down to copper core.

Really? That had occurred to me as well, but because virtually all the edge reading is gone and it is just slightly not as tall and just slightly not as wide as a regular dime I figured it had to be a fake?

Dryer Coin sounds right to me. Keep in mind that there is very, very little reason to go to the trouble of counterfeiting a common clad Roosevelt dime.

It's a legitimate coin, but it's a very well circulated and very worn down coin, that ended up in the dryer ( Dryer Coin). It's a form of Post Strike Damage (meaning it happened after it left the U.S. Mint).
Errers and Varietys.

Okay, I guess it could get graded as DD-10 (dryer drum 10) then! lol guess this is not one the vending machines will take nor the auto coin counter machines (which is what my bank uses now grrr! They dont accept pre rolled coin anymore). Seriously though, in a prior life I was married to a casino manager in Reno. There was actually a group in the 80's who counterfeited small coins like this (badly) to play on slot machines! I am always suspicious now........

Well, if that guy in the 1940s counterfeited the 5 cent coins, why not the 10 cent in the 1980s?

Quote: Well, if that guy in the 1940s counterfeited the 5 cent coins, why not the 10 cent in the 1980s? You just never know.... And for anyone who sees this that is in the same position, without a scale, you can easily make one at home. Google "Popsicle stick cent scale". It is useful for those 1982 cents but also would be useful in this scenario I think.
