Hey guys. I've done a bit of CRH and have obtained pretty much all the non silver coins for dimes and quarters and was hoping to push forward my silver collection for said coins too. I have done one box of edge hunting for dimes and found a Mercury dime pretty easy. I was wondering if you guys have any tips for disposing the coins afterwards? Like is there a certain way to unwrap these coins to then rewrap them easily? Unfortunately both TD and Hudson got rid of their coin machines so I would need a good way to dump the fodder easily. Thanks!

I don't CRH any more, but I don't think that in 2018 you should be expecting to find many of these in circulation. Consider checking out this expansive CCF thread to get a better idea of typical dime finds: http://goccf.com/t/60961

I'm not saying that you won't find any silver, but just that most likely you are embarking on a long road.

the easiest way is to only unwrap one end, then search the coins and then put the coins back in the same wrapper, folding the opened end over. (hint you may need something to pry open the end, I use a dulled steak knife).
Rest in Peace

Banks in my area won't even take "customer rolled" coins, of which once a box leaves the bank, is what these are now called, even with a tight-wrap. I have a "business" account status, this grants me the privilege of dumping loose coins for deposit to my account. Catch that? LOOSE COINS, meaning if just edge searched, they ALL must be removed and loose, might as well keep CRH for varieties then. Learned that by taking all but 2 unwrapped rolls of dimes back, spent the next 30 minutes cutting wrappers at the courtesy desk!

Spence has it right. There are too many stackers trying for silver, pickings are getting real slim except for halves perhaps, got $1000 for a box and somewhere to "spend" them, because most banks won't take them back at all. Only timeout "luck out" is when stoopid relatives dump a collection at face value.

Suggest you keep your day job, don't be counting on getting rich, especially with an unwavering metal as silver. Dont belie the hype of mass increase, that only happened in '78 because of the Hunt Brothers, market is a constant and will always be in relation to gold. Good to have some in a portfolio, but not single sourced savings. Need a good mix of investments over at least a 15 year plan. Ain't no get rich quick scheme that really lasts.

If you want hole fillers, it might be more worth your time to look at junk silver lots on ebay. There are plenty that sell for close to melt value.

You need to find a coinstar or one of these.

My bank won't take them back either. I dump mine at a credit union I belong to. Like Crazyb0 said, you might consider doing halves. If you ever do, forget about the edge hunting with those. If you don't, you will definitely miss a lot of 40%'ers! You have to look at each coin or listen as it hits the throw-a-way pile.

When I quit roll hunting four years ago, my take was 1 silver dime per $140 searched. I hunted about $75k in five years, so I found over 500 silver dimes including 100+ Canadian silvers, dozens of mercs, and a half-dozen Barbers. I also found silver and clad proof dimes.

Silver dimes are still found in rolls, as they aren't hit as hard as halves. The naysayers aren't roll hunters.

Once your get good at it, you can edge search and re-roll a $5 roll of handrolled dimes in about 10 seconds or less.

I found a CU that would take my rolled dimes and reimburse in cash on the spot.
If hunting machine-rolled dimes, you will have to find a coin counter to dump at.
I once had a sweet gig at a CU in which they would take my dimes loose in $500 bags. Never once counted them in several years time, never a complaint from them.

You won't get rich roll hunting, but it's a fun, nerdy hobby. Me, I can't even break even because I'll never sell my finds.

When I edge searched halves, I thought I was missing some. After date-searching several thousand, I found I was wrong.

I can't really give any advice on this one. When I search dimes, I'm interested in pulling as many 2009 dated coins as I can find. And if I happen to run into silver, it's a bonus!
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
