I have a coin jar I put my loose change in to check at a later time. I finally got around to it and found what turns out to be a silver Jefferson 2004-D Peace Nickel after acid testing it. The line on stone turned red which means it's at least 90% silver. It weighs 4.97 grams, thickness is thinner than other nickels( just a little) and diameter seems to be a hair smaller when put on top of other nickels.
My dilemma is I can't find any info on one ever being Minted. Did they make a silver Proof of this nickel and some one put it in circulation? I wouldn't want to send it in and pay the money for certification for a circulated Proof coin.
Found Mint and Proof Sets , but they don't indicate what metal the Nickel is. Wondering if someone knows.
Thanks for any info

To CCF , there is no such animal as a silver 2004-D Jefferson nickel . Please post photos of this coin both sides .

Even in the most remote possibility that a silver blank planchet of some kind were used and you did have a "silver" Jefferson Peace nickel, scratching it to do an acid test would be the wrong thing to do and it would cause damage to the coin, lowering the value considerably.

If the thickness is normal, it is not a wrong planchet.

I've taken pictures and have cropped them down to under 300k, but having trouble uploading.
In reply to ruining coin by acid test. They have a little kit with a very fine stone that you rub the edge of the coin on then put a special acid on strip the coin left. The color that shows up on the strip is the % amount of silver in strip left on stone.
As for the thickness, I believe I wrote the coin was a little thinner than a regular Nickel.
I've taken pics of Obverse, reverse, comparison of thickness between two other nickels and weight of coin. I followed the instructions, I thought to upload. I'm new to this way of uploading. I usually just click attach and send. This is a different world.
Sorry, I have limited time to work on these pictures.
I will try again tomorrow

A Jefferson nickel should weigh 5 grams. Your coin appears to be normal, just Very new, with no circulation apparent.

That's what caught my eye among all the other coins after weighing the pennies. Looking for that elusive 1983-D copper. My wife like to put her coins in my unsearched penny jar. If you put a loop on it is pretty dinged up. What amazes me is after 14 yrs in circ. it still has luster.
You helped me with the pictures, can I ask how you retrieve a Draft.

Well how about that I was closing all my tabs and the window I was supposed to see was under all the tabs.
The pics of the weight of coin, need to add the two weights together to get the total weight of coin. The -4 is actually the zero. Therefore, add 4.94g to .4g total wgt. is 4.98g After weighing a couple hundred pennyies the battery got low.
Sorry for the delay
As for the foreign planchet idea. It never occurred to me it might be that. That would be a major under taking to find a foreign coin of this weight, diameter and silver content. I'll see if the Denver Mint gives that info out to public on when they minted for another Country.
