Earlier today I posted a photo of two 2018 armistice poppy $2 coins that I had just found in circulation http://goccf.com/t/318659&whichpage=4When I looked at the post again I noticed that the orientation of the red poppies were different on each coin. I googled images of the coin and all had the same orientation as the second coin pictured. If anyone who has a few of these coins could let me know if the orientations differ it would be greatly appreciated.

Mine is the same. I notice that the red areas at the outer ends of the clear arms are rounded. Just a poor representation of a poppy flower.

Quote: Mine is the same The same as which one though? The first coin that has the clear arms at 2,5,7 and 10 o'clock or the second coin that has them at 12,3,6 and 9 o'clock.

I only have 2 of these, and whilst one is very similar to one of your coins, the other is in a different position. I believe that the position of the Poppy is probably Pot Luck and many different positions will eventually surface. (The initials in Red just indicate to me the origins of the coins.)

The pad printing is done after the coin is minted, so it probably is totally random.
This is mine.. IMG]uploaded/triggersmob/10048/2018_Australia__2_-_Armistice.jpg[/IMG]

An interesting collector theme IMO. No doubt there would be quite a few opinions on how the orientation could be viewed, but to my eye there are three similar sized segments and one that is noticeably larger, so for me it would be the position of the larger slice of the pizza.

Quote: one that is noticeably larger, so for me it would be the position of the larger slice of the pizza. Good eye AC. I hadn't noticed that! I can now see, that by noting where on the 'slice/s' the top left of the second 0 of 200 corresponds to, all 5 coins are different Quote: so it probably is totally random.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Quote: The pad printing is done after the coin is minted, so it probably is totally random. Steve do you have a link for how/when the colour is added during the minting process? I did a bit of googling before and came up with nothing.

I believe the coloring is as random as the reeding on 1 & 2 dollars coins
