On holidays on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Just received 3 very shiny 2019 Twenty Cent coins in my change. Time travelling coins because it is the 23rd December 2018 today... Squire Edited by Squire Wilson 12/22/2018 10:37 pm

Look closely at the reverse. Do they have a tiny "35", and an 'A', 'U', or an 'S' on the reverse? If so, your coin is part of a Treasure Hunt series, sponsored by the Royal Australian Mint.
Google for more information.

Thanks for the response sel_69I I think the competition only applies to the 1 dollar coins That is why I was surprised to see the "time travelling" 20 cent coin. I have attached a picture of the reverse Squire

Yeah I've seen these reported elsewhere too - maybe a security company was short on stock and it was all the mint had?

I think u are mistaking 1 dollars 2019, with 20c which has nothing to do with the competition. I doubt they just ran out of coins at the sercuity company, my guess is 2018 dies for the ran out so the mint is was like screw it lets just use the 2019 dies, no ones going to care ;) expect for us collectors. Have a whole bunch so that is what I base it on.

Thanks for your response Good to see that others have also found 2019 Twenty Cent coins. Thanks for the pic ryurazu I am surprised that the 2019 Twenty Cent coins are available before time. Particularly because I only found 2018 Twenty Cent coins in my change late this year. Maybe the mint produced other denomination 2019 coins aside from the $1 coins and accidentally released some of these into circulation at the same time Squire

Quote:I am surprised that the 2019 Twenty Cent coins are available before time. Yeah,i remember reading(some time ago) that according to the RAM's Charter they have to Mint Coins for that particular year,ie they can't release 2019 Coins in 2018 or Mint 2018 Coins in 2019.Perhaps the Legislation concerning the Mints operation has been amended. It was discussed in relation to the 1923 Half so someone on here may know more.

What parts of Australia are people finding these 20c pieces? I'm in South-East Queensland but haven't seen one yet.

I am with Mr T. Found a 2019 20C in Blacktown, Western Sydney on 4th January.
I am forced to agree with Squire Wilson on the subject of time travel.
My guess is that it was probably an error to issue them before they were supposed to be issued.
We have yet to find out if the 2019 coins will be rare. Might require more than a year of waiting to find out.

If the 2019 coins are out right now, I suspect it is the 2018 coins that would be of low mintage
