Need to see the whole coin, the date?
Why Topic Titles are Important

The title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan dollar....

You should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

· Horrendous: Help!

· Bad: Need help with coin

· Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar

· Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar

· Awesome: Need help with VAM on 1896 Morgan Dollar

Also please add what you are seeing?
Give us a clues as to where you are looking on your coin?

This enables the members with expertise pertaining to your question to easily find and answer your question. The title of the topic also becomes the title of the topic's web page, which enables us to attract more collectors to the site. The more members we have, the more we learn.

I can see 19(8?)3 as the date from these pics. It could be a dropped letter

The date has been Struck Through Grease. As said, we will need pictures of the entire coin.

I see 983, after the one. What I doubt is real is the GD mintmark. It appears to me to be a Lincoln Cent, You can see the lapel very faintly.

Maybe those are mint marks at the bottom there? They look to be the right shape and size for '80s pennies....

It is difficult to tell from the one pic if the additional D is incuse or not. If it were a dropped letter, it should be. With the filled date and the strong MM, it makes sense to me. This might be a really cool and unusual find.

Please post more pics of the entire coin.

Certainly could be a grease filled date and a dropped mintmark which fell out upside over.
Very neat find.
