Picked up a roll of 1956-D Lincolns that turned out to be okay but not super high grade coins. But there were three of these in there plus a 1MM-026 so it was worth buying. The bonus here is that the RPM-001 coins are all early die stage, showing even better markers than the stage B of VarietyVista so maybe as close to a stage A as one might hope for. Die markers in and around the C of CENT put this at the latest stage B, which is also shown by the lack of a die chip in the left wheat. 1956-D Lincoln Wheat cent RPM-001, FS-601 EDS

That is a super find! I may have to rethink collecting RPM's after looking at that. I have a few but do not possess enough knowledge to differentiate the ones that are true rpms and what is not.

Very nice find indeed. Congratulations.
3 in the roll tells me it wasn't "salted" to get you to buy more. Depending on the seller, I'd be back to that seller buying all they had. Interesting that there was a 1MM-026 in the roll also. That information could come in useful when searching other '56-D rolls if an 026 is found. Would be indicative of potential 001's to be found in others by the same seller.
Question though- Wouldn't a Stage B tend to put this coin in the MDS category (along with the flow lines near the rim)?

I am not an expert in die stages, but here are my thoughts. The reverse seems to be MDS showing some flow lines by the rim. But the RPM stage is based on the obverse and the reverse may be different or even changed between stages (quite useful for stage determination if little changes on the obverse). Here I am seeing a coin with the stage B die markers looking even stronger and fresher than what is listed as a stage B coin, pushing it to even earlier in the production than the listed coin. So at worst it is an early stage B, which really has to be EDS in my opinion.

Tropicalbats, very nice find! It seems like that the end of the year is a great time to find good stuff.
