recent pickup,

I am not familiar with this series as I would like (this one listed as LC-60F1), my question is in regards to the 2 lines dissecting the 'o's in the 8. Please note, they are slightly raised (not scratches)
I have never seen this on the ones I have viewed, and can not find any reference to them in the charlton #8 token catalog that I have.

Is this a common anomaly? Rare die variety? Any comments or insight appreciated.

Wade I'm not sure but to me these look like die lines. The coin is from an Early Die Struck. Well in my opinion anyways. Also does it have radial die lines above the harp ? Looks like it from here. EDS and as such more scarce I'm sure. Maybe your the first to find one !

I agree, this looks like an EDS (Early Die State) piece. LC-60F is noted by Charlton as being of the poorest workmanship, Charlton 9th edition p162.

The picture in The Bust and Harp Tokens of Canada by Ingram & Marelic, 2004, shows a piece of similar condition but without the concentric circles. Ref page 40 of their catalog, variety # BH-02.

Yours looks like a very nice piece that I think would grade AU.

if die cracks I would expect to see more examples (or at least one) with the die cracks getting more prominent over time?

I dunno... just looks overly similar to the nova scotia ½ P 1832/1382 corrected date (which would fade quickly over time especially if made with sub-par quality dies)

EDS makes sense but I am no expert on these. It is a very nice looking coin.
