*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***More or less looking for thoughts and suggestions. On December the 14th the U.S. Mint began selling the new coins in both a proof and two roll sets. To my best understanding these are to be non-circulating, even as the Philadelphia and Denver mints strike them. My thoughts on the matter are two parts. By law, they had to stop coining these at 11:59 on the 31 of December. So how many would you think they coined? I'm thinking in the neighborhood of a million or so in line with those of the 1921 Peace dollar. A coin series which also began late in the calendar year. Either way, for the future series the number should be low. My second thought, should I fork out the $39.95 per roll and order them? Or hope that they offer a two or three coin set in the near future? As for the series, it's rather bland. But, alas, I'll still add one of each to my collection. Like thousands of other collectors I highly disagree with the edge lettering, especially when such open space is available on the obverse. An issue they will perhaps change. No clue how many have been made...guess we will have to wait and see BUT with that said it WAS an end of year release so logic might lean towards a "low" number as compared to following years....unless they started minting them in August ;)

The rolls are $32.95, not $39.95. The proof is only $6.95, so there's not a lot of potential downside in my opinion. If they minted a million of the uncs, that's a ton. I'm hoping for far less.

Anyone know when final mintage numbers get released? I'm more curious how many of the proofs were made.

Quote: Anyone know when final mintage numbers get released? I don't believe the Mint releases mintage numbers. They do release cumulative sales figures each Tuesday. AFAIK when those numbers no longer change, then that becomes the final mintage number. So, we may not know the final mintage for this coin for quite some time. Quote: When a product is no longer available, the sales figure is the Last Known Sale (LKS), which is the last sales figure published for that product when removed from sale.

Many to thank here. Alpha for posting the link since I was slacking. Bret for the price correction. As for the mintages, I also assumed production started months in advance. As for the comparison between the Peace dollar of 1921, it was in relationship to the numbers of the remaining years. Upwards of 15,000 in a few of them compared with 1 million in 1921. So for the new dollar, probably around 2 million. In line with the later Presidential dollars between the 4-7 million range. I bought both on ebay for $3.75 with free shipping. A fair price I thought. Should have them Monday.

I also got the email from the US Mint that they are back in stock. How do they go out of stock, then get them back in stock after the legal end of production (12/31/2018)? It makes it sound like they coined more of the 2018's in 2019.

It may also be referring to the first time it went unavailable. Just one of those delayed "heads up" to remind you of one of their products.
