Found this 2016 Lincoln Cent in a brand new bank roll I received from my bank. I had it observed by somebody who is in the hobby and he is slightly befuddled as to how it came to be. On the obverse side it has a partial raised imprint of the oakleaf that's on the reverse side of the Roosevelt dime. On the reverse side of the penny it appears to have the 2016 date a partial imprint of Roosevelts bust and the "ST" from the word TRUST. He took scans of the penny and sent copies to his other coin hobbyists who couldn't come up with a proper classification of this type of error and have recommended I have it sent out for authentication. Before I possibly waste my time and money I figure I would ask the Jedi masters of the forum as to what they think.I had originally thought it may be an eleven cent anomaly.

@HG, normally when we see these, the impressions are backwards as the host coin has been placed between two other coins and the whole sandwich compressed in a vice. That doesn't explain why the numbers and letters are forwards on your coin though. Let's see what some of the others say.

Is the rim altered/flattened under the date area on the reverse? If so it may have been altered with s soft die. But on the obverse if seems strange it is on the leaf shows on the forehead. Makes me wonder if is was altered.

coop, your top overlay (cent obverse) is off -- there's a hint of the dime's "M" (in "AMERICA") under/below the "S" in the cent's "TRUST". That would bring the alignment between the two sides much closer but may still be imperfect.

Coin was altered with a soft die. It is were real the devices would be partial and weaker looking. Just saying what I see on this coin.

I disagree [with the post that was immediately above this one but has since been replaced with an updated image] but I'm at work. If I visually align the "M", I get a match on all of the leaves -- top cluster of three, singleton to the right, and the tip of the bottom two further into the field.
Edited to add the bracketed clarification above.

Some of the dime devices seem raised, while other indicate impression. I have to ask myself, "Self", what are the odds of two partial obverse and reverse dime die impressions in a reverse coin orientation fashion, being struck through on each side during this cents strike.
Overall I'm thinking shenanigans or alterations afoot after strike. Thanks, Doug.

Here's what I get when I try to match the "M". The red circles aren't too bad, but the black one doesn't really match well -- the red one by Abe's forehead doesn't look too good either, the more I look at it. I was mainly looking at the M, the blank field between the M and the leaves (where coop's image has the branch and additional leaves) and the leaf way out in the field. I didn't try to get the relative sizes correct, but the right edge and degree of rotation aren't that far off between the overlays. That said, I'm still stumped by the fat leaf (in the black circle).

Altered with soft dies seems to fit. I do have a question for the OP though. You say this was abrand new bank roll. Were ALL of the cents in the roll brand new 2016 Philadelphia cents?

This is more fun than CSI... can you zoom in on sector G4 - I want to see inside the coin... Seriously though, good investigative work. I love it.
