I had this coin in the scrap pile bc of the hole through her face but recently watched an episode of Pawn Stars where the expert said this was common practice for old timers bc they wanted to keep the coin on their body. Does anyone have knowledge in this? What a waste of a beautiful coin!

Your coin although considered damaged, still carry's a premium, but much less than the market value if it were without a hole. And many people liked/still do like to use certain coins as jewelry pieces/ key chains. lucky charm necklaces.

You might try a tissue test to see if it is silver? The areas worked over could show that it silver or some other metal. If silver, it would be worth silver melt.

I'm sure MikeF would have a good opinion of value here if he happens to read this thread.

It was common to hole coins in the 19th century but it still devastates the value. A quick check of ebay completed listings show $100 to $150 as a typical value.

That's still a very nice Seated Liberty dollar though!

What's the weight and diameter?

If the coin is legit, worth $100 - $150 at best.

If genuine it is worth way more than silver melt value.

Holed Seated dollars will easily bring 100 to 150 $ (retail) on ebay and at coin shows.

I used to buy them back in the old days (70's, 80's and 90's) for 25-35 $. Them days is long, long gone!

It'll definitely worth more than a melt value if it is a genuine coin. will be worth around what has already been mentioned.

It weighs .930 g and and size matches exactly with size of similar coins...it is bluish in color though.

It is not a genuine Seated Liberty dollar. 0.930 g is way too light

The pawn stars coin was actually an early version of dog tags with one side blank for stamping the soldiers name.

I agree it's not super valuable, but it's over 170 years old. It's a relic of a world much different from our own. I'd keep it and enjoy it for what it is.
