Hello and good morning,
I am a new coin roll hunter..4 months new and want to learn about various errors and varieties of mostly the Lincoln Cent. I found this coin to have Mechanical Doubling as well as real doubling and oddities. Your opinions and suggestions are welcomed and appreciated as I am unsure of what I have. Thank you for looking.

Yes. It is Machine Doubling. Not a doubled die. On the obverse the MD is reducing the size of the raised devices. On the reverse area in the outside ring, these devices are incuse. (sunk into the coin, raised on the die) When the same movement that creates the MD on raised devices, doe just the opposite on the incuse devices. That is, it makes the devices larger because of the die movement. On these 50 States and the ATB Quarters, all the doubled dies are in the center of the designs on both sides. Earlobes and center of reverse designs. Everything beyond those areas is 99% of the time either Die Deterioration or Machine Doubling on the edges of the devices. So doubled dies are confined to the centers of the designs.

To CCF! Enjoy the hunt! You'll be taken on a wild ride, as there's a lot to learn about errors and varieties. You are correct about having Machine Doubling.

Coop check out the word LIBERTY. That word is raised and I see distinct notching of the top left corners of the letters, especially BERTY.
