I just saw a Facebook post from the ANA which cites a Dallas-Fort Worth TV Station story that there was a "Bill Introduced To Mint A Bush Coin In 2019." According to the article, "A bill was introduced in the Senate that would authorize $1 coins honoring President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara. The U.S. Department of Treasury will mint the coins paying tribute to the former president and first lady for 2019. The couple, who shared strong ties in Texas, both passed away last year. Republican Sen. Susan Collins said the coin will pay tribute to the Bush legacy of 'courage, duty, honor, and compassion.' Sponsors include Collins and independent Sen. Angus King of Maine, along with GOP Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn of Texas, and Rob Portman of Ohio." https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2019/02/16...J_chD1yn7ShQLet's see if the coins will be issued in UNC and PR, plus reversed and enhanced finishes, not to mention Coin & Chronicles/Coin & Currency sets, etc... Oh, plus there will certainly be specialty labels and Early Release labels available from the TPGs.

Let's hope they keep it in the same likeness of the previous Presidential dollars. A reverse proof in a Coin & Chronicles set would also be nice.

Quote:Let's hope they keep it in the same likeness of the previous Presidential dollars. I agree. That should be a no-brainer to them. I am all for this getting passed. Quote: A reverse proof in a Coin & Chronicles set would also be nice. I would not complain about this being offered as well.

I vote "No" -- the series is complete, let it die already. This is a political move that I would not expect to pass if it were about a Democratic president when the government is under mostly Republican control, or when the parties are switched. It can only lead to more gaps in the series (like we currently have with Carter) if we keep going this way.
First it was about honoring all the presidents. Now it's a chance for each president to posthumously face Congress to get his/her own coin in a series that hardly anyone wanted in the first place. There are much bigger fish to fry.

At the very least, it's an easy way for politicians to appear bipartisan.

They could do a GHW Bush Coin & Chronicles without revisiting the Presidential dollar series. The 2009 Lincoln C&C didn't have the Lincoln's Presidential dollar (the Lincoln Presidential dollar wasn't released until 2010) and for obvious reasons the Benjamin Franklin and John Marshall sets didn't include Presidential dollars either. Now... I'm not sure what else they would include in such a set besides perhaps a medal if not a newly-minted GHWB $1 coin.

Quote: the series is complete, let it die already Politics aside, the series is technically only complete once the are no more presidents, and we still have some living and future ones. I wouldn't mind an open-ended bill allowing the mint to produce the next coin whenever a president dies. Long way from a bill being introduced to becoming law. Thankfully...

This should happen no matter which President passes.

The latest actions listed on Congress.gov on this legislation are Quote: Senate (42 cosponsors) - 02/12/2019 Read twice and referred to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
House (8 cosponsors) - 02/13/2019 Referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. The proposed legislation calls for the coins to be issued in 2019. With so little action on the legislation, and with the year nearly half over, IMHO the prospects for these coins is starting to fade.

At this point I think new legislation would have to be introduced. Some of those cosponsors may not even be around now.
edit: misread the date on the legislation. Also didn't think it all the way through. Penalty.
