Hi Ccobb, the first thing you want to look at to determine if it is a real clip, is the edge of the coin 180 degrees from the clip. if you look between the t and the y in Liberty you will see a depression on the rim. This is called the Blakesy effect, and is the easiest way to determine if you have a legit clip.

However in your image we do see the depression on the one side, but not really on the other, it should be on both (sometimes it only shows up on one) if you could provide another close up of the coin between the A and R that would be helpful.

Secondly the Mods should move this thread into the USA modern error section.

Cheers.

Why are three images of a 1982 quarter on this post?

hmmm I think that happened to me one time.. it happened when I uploaded more then once to the same thread. The CCF system I think pulls all uploaded files every time you upload something to the thread (using the same file name over and over might cause this problem).
That is why I started renaming file names to something more specific and unique to the picture.

I am not sure.. I still use a flip phone aka a dumb phone.

Yes that is correct. Using the same name for multiple pics will result in the earlier ones being overwritten.

Nice clip by the way!

Another sign is that the letters and rim/reeding fades away in a genuine clip, not an abrupt change.
