A couple of weeks ago I was scanning ebay listings for Morgan dollars, 1883-O to be specific. I came across a nice looking example that appeared to be a listing from a seller that I've cherry-picked varieties several times over the years(a red background). It was even out of focus at 12:00 as I would expect. It turned out to be a different seller with only 3 feedbacks as a buyer, none being coins and over a year ago. I became suspicious so I checked the rest of the listings and found no less than 5 different photography methods. Now I'm even more suspicious. I've been watching the completed auctions and 9 days after closing this seller has not left feedback and even more important not received any from the buyers. Last night I came across another account with the same scenario - 1 feedback as a buyer more than a year old. Lo and behold, two coins sold by the first account are now offered by the second. I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy over these. Sold items from first buyer https://www.ebay.com/sch/aidasepans...046732.m1684auction listings from second seller https://www.ebay.com/sch/deanallen2...047675.l2562Do you think I'm over reacting....? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Seller quote Quote: Please be patient in case your package does not arrive on time specified above, few delays have occurred in the past . . .
Other seller quote in same font Quote: Normally, the package needs 7-15 days to arrive at the destination. Sometimes it will be postponed a period of time I certainly wouldn't shop there

Nice detective work. Clearly a scam. They currently both have listed an identical photo for an 1879-O Morgan, one ending tomorrow morning, the other ending Monday morning. The both allude to a possible delay in shipping in their descriptions. Seems too easy to set up a new account (or hijack a rarely used account), sell several hundred dollars of coins using stolen photos, then disappear.

with Zurie. Unfortunate but true. Hope the buyers get their money back.

They would also have to hijack where the money goes, but that doesn't surprise me. About 5 years ago someone stole my PayPal credentials and sent themselves a direct payment from me. It could only have come via ebay because I never used PayPal anywhere else. You have to watch all your accounts like a hawk these days.

Does paypal hold payments until delivery is confirmed or feedback received with accounts with such low feedback?

I think paypal does hold money for new ebay accounts. Not sure if that would apply to hijacked accounts that technically have been around for a while.

It's 25 positive sales to stop holding payments

Update - seller aidasepansk has now sold 40 Morgan dollars since 2/27 and has not received any feedback which means no one has received a coin.

He has been busy. That is really disturbing. It is quite odd that the same seller would use such different techniques for listing coins as well, so I would agree that the photos are stolen. So, who is gonna eat the cost of this scam? Will ebay intervene on behalf of the buyers?

I'm guessing they will all get packages from China.

I can't prove it yet but I think this is another hijacked account by the same person(s) that ran the above scam... https://www.ebay.com/sch/dwil6262/m...047675.l2562Edit to add, I'm sure of it now. Looking at the items sold and bought it looks like a ring of hacked accounts...
