Should be clear enough to see the mint mark. But it looks to me the D is in its wrong placement. Am I seeing right?

Don't forget the MM was hand punched so they could
be anywhere in that area.
There is probably well over 100,000 or however many were
struck before that particular die wore out that were minted.

Ok. I see what your saying. I looked up other 69 nickels and their mint marks besides an S mint I saw. So I figured it could be out of its original placing.

Looks like there could be some doubling though. The 6 and the mint looks doubled.

Just DDD, common on all nickels because of their strong metals

Mintmark placement vaired, since they were punched in by hand until 1990.

Thought the MM placement was kind of low, until I search up one lower. In the process found an interesting Coinweek article unrelated to MM placements, but is related to 1969-D Jefferson nickels. Thanks, Doug.

Ok. Thanks. I thought it was off mark and being that its tilted made me even more curious.

Im pretty new to the Coin World and would like someones opinion if feasable. I have a 1969 D which looks in uncirculated condition. The definition and details are excellent and barely any hits marks or wear on it. I even took a picture of the steps to see if there are 5 steps but Not sure. Any help out there? Greatly appreciated.

As far as steps go I cant make out one full step in the current images. The memorial as a whole seems a bit mushy or worn. Thanks, Doug.

Thanks guys. This is another reason I thought it would be an uncirculated coin being how it compares to other obviously circulated nickels.

Hello CC. I took better pictures of the steps and I can count at least 3-4 steps. I can also see them with the naked eye if I look closely. Hope these pics help. The details on the coin are very good for a 1969 nickel.

The steps have to go all the way across, unbroken. As mentioned this coin doesn't have a single step that does that.

When I was looking at the graded examples of full steps, they seldom looked like full ones to me. I gave up looking years ago. But I think they are looking to see if the incuse (risers of the steps) area of the steps needs to be full. (not the tops)
1969-Jefferson-Nickel-Mint-Misplacement-Error I looked at many examples years ago and that is what I feel they are counting. The risers, not the raised step areas. I gave up on them. They are more of a strike issue, not a variety coin. So I gave up on them and the full bell lines.
