I have an 1885 Morgan dollar carson city mint. It looks to be in really good condition. . I'm a new colle tor and know nothing about grading. And I cant seem to find out what its worth. If anyone can give me an idea of what its worth or if its worth grading? Id appreciate it. Here are some pics *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by Painter38 03/11/2019 8:30 pm

Without a picture, we can not help you. Could be a worthless fake, or a gem worth thousands.

Nice try, but try posting a large and clear correctly orientated pic of both sides.

The pictures aren't ideal, but from the appearance of the date and mintmark, it might not be authentic.

Looks like the typical Chinese fake. That color is almost spot on to the fakes

Welcome to the forum! Need better pics, unable to judge from these. Your source of lighting is also messing with coin. Like mentioned, I don't like the color but won't call it fake, will call it bad pic. If anything from these pics, I want to call it light/old cleaning.

New collector, $500+ coin with "the look", asking how much it's worth - sorry, no offense but all signs point to fake. Tell us how you got it and how much you paid (hopefully not too much). PCGS price guide https://www.PCGS.com/prices/pricegu...organ+dollar is a good place to start for research.

Sorry for the bad pics. After your comments and thinking about it I'm pretty sure its fake. I got it off ebay for like $30. Not knowing how much an authentic is worth as I am a new collector. But aftee googling and seeing that carson city mint is the rarest of these Morgan dollars I'm going to call it what it is. A fake. Thanos for the replies

Old saying, if it's too good to be true, it is. Price is a big factor, there's a reason no body bids it higher. I won't call e-bay'rs experts, but most know enough about coins to know when to walk away but there are good fakes on there that fool alot of seasoned collectors. Did it have a money back guarentee? Use paypal? Might be able to get a refund if it is fake. I'm not saying it is, but it sure does look/smell like a skunk. Magnet and weight test could be a fast indicator of what you have as a rookie. Some folks will collect fakes, if it is a fake. I have an 1888 CC in my collection myself and love it. Mines the same color as that one, a big giveway it's a fake. There are good fakes from China that are even made of silver making it real hard to tell. I've gotten to the point I won't buy anymore coins that are not TPG graded and I'm told the Chinese are getting good at faking those also. Buyer beware.

From your photo the coin is a counterfiet as the top arrow feather appears to be straight. The straight arrow feather was only used in 1878 and 1921 on the Morgan dollar. Please provide a close up of the reverse to confirm the arrow feather.
