Saw this on APMEX and bought it. It's my first Royal Australian mint gold coin. I really like the obverse. I think it's interesting with the zodiac signs and moon phases. I'm not crazy about the reverse beagles, would rather have a Lab or German short hair. In Chinese it says Year of Dog I think. It's 1/2 oz. I thought about the 1/4 oz but I can see the zodiac signs easier on the bigger coin.

I found the 2018 annual report on the Royal Australian mint web site. This coin had an unlimited mintage with final total of 1,500 struck. Collectors may not have liked the design, the original price was too high or the coin was not well advertised. Low mintage but does not guarantee higher appreciation in value over time. Some of the mints are pumping out lots of low mintage varieties and I think collectors are getting tired of it. I buy coins because I like the design. As Rhett Butler said in Gone With the Wind "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn" about low NCLT mintages.

I'm not Australian nor do I collect NCLT, but I like your attitude toward collecting.

Yep,as I posted many times on Oz. Coin Forums the Perth Mint should have a Golden Goose on the Reverse of their NCLT Coins.
They make a song and dance about low mintage but still end up dumping excess stock to overseas(from Oz.) Dealers.

Just a small correction. This coin would have been minted by the RAM (Royal Australian Mint), therefore no connection to The Royal Mint.

Yes, I was going to point out the same. For those interested it can be found here https://www.ramint.gov.au/investment-coins ... and mintage numbers here on p.97 https://www.ramint.gov.au/sites/def...sible_fa.pdf

Thanks Nevol and coaster for pointing out the coin is from RAM. That's what I meant. I said Australian R...m.. The Coin Community software auto blued the words R...m...to make it look like the Britain mint by creating a link to it. I'll be more careful about the order of my words. I fixed the original post.
