That coin is why I buy certified. I don't trust myself with coppers.

According to the listing, it's not a "HALF" cent, it's a "HELF" cent.....He even calls it a "HELF" cent in his description. I think the engraver of the coin misspelled helf. lol

Sold for $217. darn that's scary. I totally might have bid on that. Seller has 100% w/ over 100 feedbacks, and I don't see the difference between this & a real one. Puts a big damper on the hobby for anyone who is new & doesn't know this stuff.
Question: are "Good/VG" type coins (non-crazy-expensive) generally free from worry of counterfeits?

I saw this auction when I listed an auction. I didn't even realize it was fake. I glanced at it and thought it was cleaned and dipped in something which removed its patina and had no interest in it over that. Some unlucky person just got taken. I hope there was a return policy and the buyer catches his error and returns it.......I just looked at the bidding activity....I buyer with a (2) rating with 4 bids in the month all with the same seller won.....The seller was upping the bid. and got his own coin HA!! The seller doesn't know it's a fake. Good news for all the buyers who lost this auction. Thank the seller for rigging it.

Looks like the makers of that coin copied an 1804 C-6 Half Cent to make the dies and then changed the date to 1800. I think I remember seeing an 1803 counterfeit on another post copied from the same 1804 C-6.

You did. I identified the dies on the other thread. I suspected this was also the 04 C-6 reverse but the images were not good enough for me to determine if it was the same die used on the 03 fake or a different fake die from the same hub. Couldn't make out the die cracks
