Recently bought this coin from vcoins.com from the seller numiscorner. Why does the edge of the coin and the letters appear stretched? Around the edges are vertical lines, Is that just the style of the coin? Here is a link to the page,

https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/st...Default.aspx.

The coin is Valentinian II, Solidus, 388-392, Constantinople, , Gold, RIC:69b

Metal flow lines. They didn't do collars back in the day.

IIRC, this is typical for a lot of ancient coins (and many later ones). Some are much stronger.

Metal flow lines much more commonly found where there is an edge rim nearby, even with modern coins.

My avatar coin does not have an edge rim. Does not have metal flow lines, either.

A little ancient gold is a spectacular addition to any collection. I'm drooling on my keyboard.
