I have this 2004 P Roosevelt dime that has some pretty serious Feeder Finger Damage. It is severe enough the part of an oak leaf has been removed. The only thing that I could come up with as to why part of the oak leaf is missing is that part of the Die May have been filled with metal shavings made by the Feeder Finger Damage. I don't think it came from a broken die in my opinion. I have had and have seen many feeder finger damaged coins but while there may be worse than this out there, I haven't seen any this bad. Enjoy.
Thank you Mr. Coop for confirming what I knew. But what caused the missing part of the oak leaf? The only thing I could think of was abrasion shrapnel filling the die.
An arrow might show me more about what your are asking about. If the device had grease in the deeper part of the die, the leaf would be prevented from striking up on the coin.
Grease or debris maybe a factor with the missing portion of oak leaf. I'd think a Grease Filled Die would also wipe out the die scrapes left behind as well. Thanks, Doug.
