What would cause this large raised area? It is not incuse on the opposite side as one would expect damage to be but rather it is raised on both sides. I find it amusing that someone put a little face on it!

Not sure exactly,but it's Post Strike Damage ( PSD). Definitely did not happen at the U.S. Mint.

@ccobb, I think that you know this is damage. In the past, we have generally attributed these bumps to localized overheating of the coin, but it is anyone's guess as to the cause.

In a line with Spence, my best guess is high voltage caused that.

Hopefully if this happened, the guy didn't wear gloves. He can really miss out on the zap to his body if that happened. LOL (kidding of course)
