I've got a big question...How do you split a collection?

I've recently come across a really nice collection of complete Morgans, but due to the super high expense, I'm planning on going in on the collection with another deep-pocketed dealer in town.

I've heard a number of circumstances where two dealers partner up on a collection, and while it's a really stupid question, I've got to ask advice on how to go about it.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Do you plan on keeping them or selling them?

Take out a loan from a bank. Those are easily sold so you wouldn't have them for long. OR just split it in half.

I think that was the question, how do you fairly do that? Unless a 93-S is part of the collection, you could perhaps alternate picking coins. After picking the first 20-25 coins, you could probably just divide the rest evenly (assuming these are circulated coins).

That way the advantage alternates

Is the set complete? Is the collection slabbed? If so, by which grading service?

Put them in a bag, and have a disinterested person draw them out, giving one to each of you alternately.

1) Each of the coins is assigned an agreed upon value that totals to the purchase price of the collection.
2) alternating picks by each partner.
3) Settlement process after picks is needed based on each partners total value of picks.

If the partners can not agree on a coin value, there needs to a pre determined way to assign coin value.

Thanks for all the great advice! They are raw, high grade. It's a nearly complete set. Some really nice stuff!

Instead of splitting up the coins, why not just split up the proceeds?
