You guys are ruthless. Gee, why not just look at the government invoice? Or if it has a presentation box? How about using a SEM. So nevermind.

Don't get your feathers ruffled. It was a fair question and fair answer. Without the benefit of the mint mark, I do not believe I would be able to tell them apart unless they were side-by-side. And even then, who knows; I haven't tried it. I like to think I can tell the difference between good wines and average wines, but I'm probably just fooling myself. Update: I grabbed my CAPS album and looked at the past 5 years of bullion and burnished next to each other...yeah, really hard to tell the difference IMO. Maybe the burnished are ever-so-slightly more polished looking?

yes, when you look at a bullion & burnished side by side they are nearly identical. the difference in the look of the finishes is so very slight as to be indistinguishable, so the mintmark is the easier option for identifying. i'd have to sit down and stare at them again to remember exactly how to articulate the difference.

Well the mintage difference should be a bit of a perk for the burnished...
138,934 vs 15.7 million (2018 numbers)
It's just common sense that if you are buying just for just the metal value then it is dumb to buy collector coins...

for me, a big part of the attractiveness of the burnished (uncirculated) ASE is the mintage number. Foxwoods Man's point rings well with me. if I want a lot of silver just for the metal, i'll get a bunch of the bullion coins, or something else. now that the 2019-W burnished ASE is available i'll likely get more than one when I get around to purchasing. I've bought 3 each of the last few years' offerings, so i'll probably do the same with this year's, maybe a couple more if the mintages continue to dwindle. it's been on my mind since the beginning of spring. ...and LOL: I'm glad someone else started this thread. in the run-up to the 2019-W burnished being released I had been contemplating starting a thread for it, but I was pretty sure someone else would do it, so thanks! I dig reading everyone's thoughts on it. gave me an idea for a new thread...

Mine arrived yesterday and look great, as usual. One will go into the CAPS album later today.

I was looking as the Mint sales figures as June 23 for the Burnished W Silver Eagles 2017 176,739 2018 138,935 2019 112,354 It's interesting that the price of these low mintage ASE coins do not reflect the decline in volume. Collecting the Burnished series is so simple compared to all the varieties of Proof ASE that has been produced recently. I have stopped collecting proofs and only purchase MS70 Burnished ASE.

Well the price might reflect the decline in interest or the market in general ..and...the 2019 W has been on sale for only a month so it still has quite some time before the final numbers are in It took just over a year for the 2018 W to go to sold out status

Here is a comparison of three ASE coins graded 70. Two Burnished, comparing a 2008 vs a 2019, the current Burnished coins are much better than the earlier version IMHO. A 2018 Proof is also included, I feel the current Burnished coins show more detail because they are not as highly refective as the UC Proofs, just my humble opinion
