When a Cent features a Close AM design, are A and M supposed to touch or not? I thought they were, but this one is not touching, might be just damage. Need your input. Thanks

Cheers

1998, 1999 and 2000 have a Wide AM variety and then there's the normal Close AM for those year. 2001 has the regular AM.

Die Deterioration can thin letters and make them appear further apart.

I've seen that video before. All business strikes after 1993 should feature a Close AM design up until 2008. My question is weather A and M should be touching or not? In my pictures A and M is not touching, I'd like to know why that is. I believe that it is Close AM penny, but what is weird to me is AM not touching. Thanks for your feedback!

Your coin is not a Close AM cent. A Close AM cent is not touching, it's just very close. A Close AM and a Wide AM is very obvious with the naked eye.

If this coin is not a Close AM that would make it a variety right? Because ALL 2001 supposed to be Close AM design.

Rookie, if you could can you take a clear closeup pic of the FG at the bottom right of the memorial?

Jim, absolutely. After I get home. I wanna say the FG spacing indicates this coin to be a Close AM, however, the space between A and M seems significant to me.

I can tell by the FG that you have RDV-007, the normal for that year. The FG is further away from the memorial than the other two varieties (RDV-005 and 006). Maybe the damage on the coin is hiding the Close AM.

Appears to be RDV-007, "A" in STATES is not centered either. I believe normal for 2001 P
