Hi all,
What do you think? a keeper?
What is the proper name for that rim error?

Also, has a few things on reverse...ie... 3 die cracks.(corners of the building)
Thanks for all your info!

id say the zinc rot weakened the rim and it got bent/pressed onto the coin face. I'd like to say there is die cracks, but I only see circulation damage. its a good catch though! had potential!

@LG, as pointed out by @john1, die cracks at corners are pretty common as the stress on the die is higher there. Here is another example of that phenomenon:

The rim has taken a hit and is not hanging on for dear life. If this had happened before the strike, the struck though piece would have been called a rim bur. But on this coin is is just PSD.

Thanks everyone!
Yes it appears to have been tossed around a bit!

"Rim Bur" that's what I was looking for!!
Thanks Coop!
I've seen those. Just didn't know what it was called.
In reference to this one, It is melded to the coin so I assumed it happened while being minted.
Also, just to the right of that, looks like a "Small" fold over Cud?

(I Definitely have to get a better photo rig)

Well this one isn't a rim bur struck through. But just damage to the coin. But what would cause a rim bur to loosen it and then struck onto a a coin is what you are seeing. The difference? This hasn't fallen off the coin. On a rim bur strike through, it would have to come on a planchet and get struck onto a a new coin.
This one is a rim bur that was struck onto a coin and now has moved a bit, but still on the coin. (The reason we know it was not from this planchet is the fact that the plating is present below the struck through. If it were from this coin, that area would show gray there)

Another rim bur valley still visible on a coin, with the copper plating still present.

Here is an example of a rim bur split off. Not struck onto the obverse side if the coin, but was struck onto the reverse of the coin :

Here is one that had a rim bur peel, then struck onto the same coin:

Your coin probably was normal when it was struck, but something happened after the strike or during circulation that loosened it. (Possibly during the ejection process, but we can't prove it)

But taking a second look, this might be a damaged coin that had the rim Cud broke off the edge? Note the whole motto area. Something to hang onto, but probably not much of a premium for it. Keep the attached area in tact.
