Okay fellas my last post was just the appetizer. This is the coin that made me stop taking my break from the hunt. I need to tell you first that this quarter WAS whole, it only just previously broke while my buddy was trying to figure out what he had found. To me and my untrained eye, the only thing I can possibly come up with is the copper center for a dime somehow got sandwhiched between the two outer layers for a quarter?m it weighs roughly 5.25g

That is a quarter someone cut in half. The quarter was cleaned in acid for a long time, and that ate away the softer copper core at the edge. A curiosity, but PSD only.

Coins and anything else don't "break" in such a perfect manner. It was cut. Maybe someone glued it back together in order to spend it but that coin was previously cut.

The edge is acid damage, used to eat away the softer copper in the middle. Same with your railroad track coin post just that coin was left in the acid for less time.

@jsertl, that is an interesting piece that you have there. I believe that it is a variation of the Magician's coin called a "folding coin". We don't typically see this version of CCF.

The groove along the rim (which can be created by an acid bath) I think might be used to hold a rubber band which can hold the two pieces together. Here is a link to a website which explains more:

Spence, that was the first that popped in my mind. David Blaine used one years back.
