Yokozuna Pillar of the Community United States 4618 Posts	Posted 07/31/2019 07:10 am I did an overlay of all four 1909-S V.D.B. Dies. Mint Mark #1, #2 and #3 show "large" areas of the Mint Mark would be visible on the holed coin. Die #4 was harder to see, because almost all of the mint mark would have been removed by drilling a hole in this area. However, a SMALL area would still show the the serif on the bottom left of the "S" Mint Mark. Hope this helps. ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? If and only if it were it would have been the mintmark from die number four. Unfortunately there will never be a way to confirm it. Report this Post to the Staff

It was probably done for some grandson/daughter and grandpa just used some of his old pennies he had in a jar in the garage...
