Looks like coin flattening from circulation. I just check the other sites and there is not DDO for that year/mint at both locations listed. spendable

Well I didn't find anything else on one either. But usually the circulation damage I've seen wasn't through out the coin. I noticed just looking without magnification the letters were big. Ok ! Thanks Coop!

At that time the quarters were used in a lot of vending/casinos machines. So that can flatten the devices.

He certainly does. Is Coop really a Professor? If so then I'm not surprised, he is clearly extremely intelligent, not only with just coins of course.

If I had to narrow it down,I would say a vending machine damaged it. The damage looks smeared like when you put the coin in a vending machine and have to turn a dial clockwise to get the item to fall...maybe a Gumball Machine. At a casino,you just put the coin in a machine and it drops in. John1
