The letters seem to be a lot thicker or wider than normal writing. Also, what is going on with his profile and lips? His chin almost looks like it's got another set of lips on it, or cleft chin. I know there's some deterioration and damage to the coin. Just didn't know if that's the cause or something else.

Looks like coin flattening from circulation. I just check the other sites and there is not DDO for that year/mint at both locations listed. spendable

Well I didn't find anything else on one either. But usually the circulation damage I've seen wasn't through out the coin. I noticed just looking without magnification the letters were big. Ok ! Thanks Coop!

At that time the quarters were used in a lot of vending/casinos machines. So that can flatten the devices.

He certainly does. Is Coop really a Professor? If so then I'm not surprised, he is clearly extremely intelligent, not only with just coins of course.

If I had to narrow it down,I would say a vending machine damaged it. The damage looks smeared like when you put the coin in a vending machine and have to turn a dial clockwise to get the item to fall...maybe a Gumball Machine. At a casino, you just put the coin in a machine and it drops in.
