I have been slowly getting back into coins after not being into them for a while. I am moving through my unidentified pile and I have this large cast coin.

Weight: 24.04 g
Diameter: 44 mm
Thinkness: ~3 mm

I found what may be the coin in ANNAM AND ITS MINOR CURRENCY by
ED. TODA.

In chapter 19 there is a section on the Tay-son Rebellion. https://art-hanoi.com/toda/19.html

I have found a coin that looks the similar:

Quote:
No. 210. (Barker: 209.1-209.2)
Obverse: Same as No. 209, the design on the rim varying a little.
Reverse: A dragon and a fish. Yellow copper.

If I kind of squint I can see the dragon and the fish in the design.

Can anyone comment on the identification and the authenticity of this coin?

I am leaning towards this being a modern cast, or at least a later cast of this coin.

I think it does look very much like one of the large Barker 209 Canh Thinh Thong Bao pieces.
Are you actually looking at pages 319 & 320 in Barker?

I have requested the Barker coin book on interlibrary loan, but I do not have a copy of it in front of me.

Right now all I have is this black and white drawing that is a reference to Barker.

The drawing shown is a different coin. The Barker book has what you are looking for.
