I found this in a collection I bought several years ago, but have never been sure if it is an error or not. There is a very significant gouge to the 9 in the date of this 1959 LMC. Parts of the 9 are moved, but not missing or I would immediately attribute this to PMD. So, I need the help of the experts. Error or PMD?

Looks like a peeling Struck Through Copper foil Debris error. I want to see more input on this though.

Thing is, the image is exactly the upside down missing portion of the 9 in the date.

Looks interesting. Maybe a struck through of some kind?

My impression matches that expressed by Coinfrog above. I'm inclined to see it as resulting from a damaged die - maybe a botched restamping?

Moved lamination/debris metal. Not a die issue.

That is an odd one--thx for posting. I'm on team coop for this coin. It looks to be like the top of the 9 was struck on a small lamination which has subsequently rotated nearly 180 degrees.

Thank you everyone for your input. If I understand correctly there is agreement this is an error, but there is disagreement on the type of error. Is that accurate? The question probably sounds dumb, but I have not encountered either a die error or a lamination error, so this one is a learning experience.

Yes we don't always all agree on what we are seeing in your pics. No one thought that the coin was damaged, but rather we don't have good alignment on the type of error.
