fioti has it correct. This can be quite dramatic on some of the Lincolns from the 1920's, and for some reason seems more pronounced on S mint coins as well.

During the process of the two dies banging together tens of thousands of time to make coins the images of each die become subtly impressed onto the other.
It's most commonly seen on the reverse of the coin and looks like a vague outline of the bust on the obverse (which is actually what it is).
Sometimes in more extreme examples, especially with Lincoln cents, the coin can actually take on a slightly convex or bowed appearance.

Yep , PIDT. Just wanted to note that it's Progressing Indirect "Design" Transfer. Not "Die" Transfer .

Sadly though, it's a pretty common occurance on the Lincoln Wheat Cents. No extra value for this, but it's cool.
