Found a LMC with a weight of 2.5 grams, thought that the weight did not change until 1982 and was wondering if anyone has found or knows of any LMCs with that weight. Thanks in advance for any information

That does seem to be underweight (below tolerance). Can you please confirm that the 2.5 g weight is correct by checking your scale with other copper cents?

The strike looks normal. If it were under weight it should be showing a weaker strike. Here is an example of a thinned planchet error:

Note the weakness of the strike? If yours is that far under weight, then it would be showing a weakness on the coin. Or the weight is wrong?

I have checked the scale with a 1979 and 1981 LMC and both those weighed 3.09 grams on the scale

Ok thanks for confirming. As @coop points out, we sometimes see thin planchets, but then the strike is much weaker, either overall or to one side.

Please measure the thickness and diameter. If you are using calipers, just be careful not to scratch the surface.

Checked the thickness sandwiched between a 1979 and 1981 and it does appear thinner with weak strikes on both the obverse and reverse. Thanks for the replies

The side where the thinner area will be where the weaker strike would occur because of the lack of thickness on those areas.

If I had that coin and was sure about the weight, I would think about TPG.

Very interesting that it has full devices (from what we can see of the partial obv and rev.)
Really helpful to see a full reverse and obverse if you get them.
