I like anything with Lady Liberty on it, but in particular Peace and Morgan dollars, Walking Liberty halves and "Mercury" dimes.

I accumulate dead-president coins when I can get them on the cheap, then sell/trade them off to buy more of the above.

Mostly ASEs and bars, some junk silver. The majority of my key/better date classic coins are worth far more than silver value so I don't classify them under the same category.
Big portion of bullion is actually in Platinum Eagles... makes me want to cry.

Hey Clembo,

Does the coin shop you work with have various dates in there Washington quarter junk bin?

I am looking for common date quarters in circulated AG-G condition to fill my albums. My local coin shop's junk silver is like 95% 1964.

Lots of dates in his bins MINT MARQ.

Today he was charging 10x face for junk. Now when I start cherry picking I have to catch him in the right mood.

I've snatched quite a few coins from the 30s and some pretty nice examples from the 40s and 50s. He actually bought a bunch today and I did see some decent coins in there. May take a better look tomorrow.

40s I look for XF or better and AU or better in 50s.

Sometimes he pays a better premium as well, of course. Those that bring in nicer coins with a semblance of organization get better money. Me and my coworker get first crack at these.

Get some pretty good prices on better stuff.

But I'm rambling. Bottom line is we do get a pretty decent mix and the higher the price of silver the bettter the mix.

I'm a penny, and to a lesser extent, nickel person who also hoards for metal content.
I like any coin with silver in it, and will take what ever I can get my hands on cheap. However, I'm starting to take a real liking to the Mercury dime for more than just her metal content.

Hi guys, new to site and renew to collecting.

Your thoughts here, is it better to collect the junk silver coins or the bars.
I can get bars at silver cost, I think. I use to get the bars at silver cost, my wife is going Monday and check things out again.

Anything silver made in the U.S. and even the world. I love silver coins (and gold ones too!).

What silver do you all collect?
What's junk silver? And what's the best to get started with?

This should be obvious. Any Silver at all as long as it can be melted down to make bullets.
You are aware that if the Lone Ranger becomes popular, like the Batman stuff, Silver bullets will be a required item and you could sell them for a fortune to the movie people.
HOWEVER, there is a much larger necessity for Silver bullets. If you run into a Warewolf, you would find out the only thing that kills them is a Silver bullet.
I used to have a decent amount of real Silverware but one of my ex wives ran off with that. Must know about warewolves.

cuzzx...

For investment purposes I buy 1oz, 5oz, 10oz or larger bars and rounds.

I don't do the junk silver route because I can sell the .999 silver easier.

Regards,
Ben

That's funny Carl! Do you collect junk lead? I like picking through rolls of low grade Barbers, Standing Liberty quarters, Walking Lib Halves, etc. These can be had for a reasonable premium over spot price and often yield some good date\mintmark\grade combos.

Thanks MINT MARQ for the offer of the folders. Until I can actually get some silver, I'll hold off. I did just get a few Canadian and a few dimes but right now, there's not much to be had without paying way over premium.
