Wanted to see if someone could verify this find and give some input on whether I found something significant or not. It looks like most of the DDR's for Franklins are in E PLURIBUS UNUM but this one is on United States of America and the spread is nice with strong splitting of Sariff's. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Unfortunately, that looks like MD to me, but let's see what the others say.

What about the Sariffs that are splitting? The A in most of the pics it is strong splitting and at different angles you can see it on the different lettering. Thanks for your thoughts and Ill cross my fingers that it ends up being real doubling. It almost appears like MD and Doubled Die at the same time. Ill see what others say. Thanks again

Yes, the lighting in the 2nd pic does make it look like a split serif. I don;t know if this is form the lighting/angle or what. I am only mentioning this as a possibility b/c there is an awful lot of Md on this piece: thinning of devices and flat, shelf-like "doubling."

Also, it might be good to check other 63-Ds to see if that small split is on the A for this year and MM. I know some specific year/MM coins can have a split like this as part of the design. I am thinking specifically of a Jefferson, but don't remember the specific year/MM.

Looks like both MD and a DDR, I don't believe that strong notching in the photo could be caused by MD.

Cool find!

Here is what a doubled die would look like:

Note on these devices, you can see the spread on the centers of the devices. On your coin you looking at the edges of the devices. That is where you see Machine Doubling. Also the MD reduces the size of the devices. Note on the two images I posted? You can see the devices are enlarged and also notches on the corners of the devices.
Glare can hide MD, but inverting an image (Making it a color negative) show what the glare can hide.

Best if you are having issue with glare is to not make you lighting like a spot light on the devices. You can see under your glass, but taking a shot that shows the affected areas better is to move the coin to allow the light to fall over the devices and not be too strong so all we see is white on an area.

OK Here are the Sariff Photos with the lighting corrected and no shadows. It appears to me like 1st layer is MD but the letter on top is a true DDR on all lettering reverse. With these new photos can you take another gander and I will take this final comments as accurate because the pics are very revealing to whatever this is called. The new photos are darkened so make sure you scroll to the right ones
