Hello. New to the forum here and did not see a section for New Zealand, so figured Australia was pretty darn close. Anyone know much about this coin?

Not about that coin specifically, but there were quite a lot of token issues in those days. All of them are collectible. Some of the better ones in better shape may be worth a few $hundred.

One of the more common Tradesmen's Tokens I'm afraid. Probably worth around $30 retail in that condition.

Yeah, about A$15-A$30 according to Renniks Token guide, page 95/96. Street price possibly closer to A$10 if you can find a buyer,Token collectors are thin on the ground these days.
I have a few rare ones I purchased off ebay USA at bargain basement prices,a few US$ for tokens with book values around A$100+ but when coming to sell no one wants them.
Funnily enough I offloaded a few to a Sydney Dealer a few years back at a reasonable profit,he obviously had contacts/clients to on-sell to.

Tokens like these were quite commonly issued in the Australasian colonies from the mid-1850s until the various colonial governments outlawed them. In New Zealand, tokens were not outlawed until 1897. Many of the Australian tokens that were outlawed in the Australian colonies in the 1870s were exported to New Zealand, where they were more or less happily accepted, despite their lack of redeemability.

Because of the relatively longer time in circulation, New Zealand tokens tend to have a higher survival rate, and thus tend to be less rare and less valuable compared to Australian ones. Here in Australia, where we happily regard New Zealand tokens as a part of the "Australian colonial" series, NZ tokens are generally quite cheap.

The pieces are listed in the Krause world coin catalogues. Here's the NGS database entry for your token.
