That said, I TRULY hope we go back to a single design. Having 5 designs every year with all the mint marks since 1999 is very extreme. As is, I just can't take US quarters seriously anymore.

I understand your frustration.
You can pretty much bet that they'll come up with another gimmick to sucker collectors In for another 10 years. Those quarter programs bring in lot of money and help keep mint employees, contractors and suppliers with a job!

I agree, Force. Looks like we'll have at least one year of single design but I'm not up on the news lately. You have to admit, though, it does provide more opportunity to find errors [ which I think they do on purpose, semi- ]. But give Congress a distraction bill over what they're supposed to be doing and they'll take the former every time.

I had no problems with the statehood and territory quarters. I was led to believe early on the eagle reverse would return afterwards but it did not. Now it's just too gimmicky and I think it cheapens the hobby to an extent. Honestly I wish they'd have issued the eagle reverse quarters coinciding with these commemorative releases so at least we can have some continuity. Even Canada did this with the Caribou quarters. Now the annual sets are just too large, expensive, and cumbersome. I miss the days of just one lens in the proof sets.

Heck, lets have 20 years of the best roadside attractions in each state state, five states per year.

The time has come and gone for Congress to authorize round two of ATB, so as far as I know we're going back to one design when the last ATB issue comes out in early 2021. But we do have the Ammerican Innovation program if you find yourself getting bored.

Plus the Eagle was on its way to being a modern classic. I was thinking about the single lens as well, but will the small dollar, do you think it would be too crowded? A bigger lens perhaps? I suppose if they did it with the Ike year proof sets it could be done.

2021 will have 2 quarters + the AI coin, so I bet we still have two lenses for at least 2021.
Not sure about 2022 and beyond but I suspect one lens would be too crowded as you suggest.
And I don't see them doing a bigger lens... of if they do it would drive a lot of OCD collectors nuts.

I still think they should have also done famous alleys, high crime rate neighborhoods, famous amusement parks and head stones of famous gangsters in graveyards. Why the Mint could keep on doing these forever.

I'm sure I'll get corrected, but as of the moment no new multi-year programs are proposed. Instead, we'll get another 67 year run on a single design commemorative. The original Washington obverse design and a depiction of the Delaware Crossing reverse. Ugh.

I am just so turned off with US coinage. It's boring as heck. The same dead person forever on there and blah blah blah. Time to modernize to reflect current times IMO. And get rid of the penny already! Geesh!

I'm with you, Force. Think back to the beauty of Mercury dimes, Standing Liberty quarters and Walking Liberty halves. Why can't they do designs like that anymore? U.S. coins aside for the moment... I think your coin avatar, Force, the "young head" Elisabeth is one of the most beautiful coin portraits ever! I understand they felt the aging of the Queen over the years was important, but there is no other beautiful coin portraits to be found anywhere else, especially on silver!

Nothing official yet, but the plan seems to be the single rev design (Washington crossing the Delaware) til 2026, then possibly a commemorative design on all the coins for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. After that they seem to have a plan for a five coin series on animals and a five coin series on youth sports. Whether each of the five coin series would be five coins in one year or one coin a year for five years I don't know, but I think they were leaning toward the latter. That would take us through 2037. (I wouldn't be surprised though if they did something special in 2032 for the 100th anniversary of the Washington quarter. And that would be a fitting divider between the Animal and sports series.) And of course a 100th anniversary coin for the Jefferson nickel in 2038.

Quote: After that they seem to have a plan for a five coin series on animals and a five coin series on youth sports... There was an article in Coin World several months ago mentioning something like this -- it seemed more like the Mint and Treasury Department being open to design changes and making suggestions, but nothing beyond that (which would require Congressional approval anyway). Has there been an update?
