I recently acquired a few coins. Then because of a auto repair issue I decided to sell them. But the guy I met that buys coins is trying to tell me my dime isn't worth more than $15. Using the phone app from PCGS called "coin facts" it looks (in my native opinion) to be worth at around $150 (AU55). Would I be totally off based if I recountered the offer asking for $100? Or am I just wishful thinking and should take $15 for it? I appreciate any advise and thank you!

According to greysheet, which pretty much all dealers use, the retail value on a AU55 coin of that kind is worth $195.

DO NOT accept $15.

Go here: https://www.greysheet.com/coin-pric...entryid=4383

Show him the link, then counter with a price. I have pretty much no experience with selling coins, but I do with other sorts of items. I've had experience with bartering and such. Not for sure the grade of that coin. My guess is AU50.

EDIT: I'm not seeing a die break. This coin is still very pricey as it's in good condition.

to CCF. Your coin does not look AU condition and it looks like a details coin, meaning it looks cleaned. Here is a link on prices http://www.numismedia.com/rarecoinp...proof=&plus=

Ah, I would listen to John. I am terrible at grading, unless it is a Lincoln Cent.

From your provided photos, I am seeing your coin in the xfine range . The linear scratches on the obverse would reduce the value within that range as well .
Here is an example I have that is in the AU range. Note that the details are not only there but that they are full and rounded.

Here is my take on this. You have a coin that has X value. If I was buying that coin I would want assurances it's real, not cleaned etc. henceforth I would give you a low value and then take it up as a loss if the coin is fake or details. Doesn't sound like your a collector so anyone buying from you would have to take a chance on it condition/ authenticity hence a $15 value on a $150 coin. Sell it for what you feel is a fair price but it's doubtful you'll get $150.

I don't know if it is just the pictures, but the colour is very flat-the coin looks to have been scrubbed or badly dipped.

Remember that dealers will pay quite a bit less than full retail value. In my LCS in Canada, most coins he will sell for less than full retail value, since most people won't PAY full retail value.
Rest in Peace

I'm not questioning it's authenticity but I'm almost positive it's been cleaned or grossly over dipped . AU-50 Details . IMHO I do not believe you will get much more than $28 for it From a dealer or anyone else experienced in buying coins .

When it comes to silver coins, I have a hard time noticing if they're cleaned or not.

Need to work on that

Well there are hair line scratches on your coin. So it may have had a harsh cleaning. At first I thought they were die scratches, but I'm seeing them on the bust as well.

Nice toning Stoneman227.

I thank everyone so very much! Is cleaning a bad thing? I assume so from the comments. Is there any way to fix that? They are as I get them. I bought them from a goodwill store so I dont know their history. I guess I could take them to a dealer but cant today. We got 6 inches if snow last night! Lol

Is cleaning a bad thing? Yes
Is there anyway to fix that? Carry it around in your pocket with your other change for a few years until it wears down two or three grades. Of course that means if you start with an AU you are going to end after several years with a VF worth $28. And of course along the way you have to make sure you don't lose it, spend it, and hope it doesn't pick up any nasty scratches.

Your prospective coin buyer sounds like an "opportunist", never sell coins in distress. Then again, he's probably wanting to pay melt or just above. Unfortunately I'd say this coin has been harshly cleaned. I'd take to a LCS, for a valuation.

Way back some time ago that coin would have been worth a decent price but due to the cleaning it went through, many would barely give you what it might be worth.
