So I have a 1958-d penny that has probably been inside this little thinng since 1958 and it's pristine. can't get a good look due to the holder being scratched.

Could this be worth anything.

Can you guarantee that the holder that it is currently in,
is airtight?

To answer your title question, yes. Pristine condition is MS70 or PF70 or the highest known grade for a given year. You would need to take the coin out of that holder to grade it and see if it is slab worthy.Your coin needs to grade MS67 http://www.numismedia.com/rarecoinp...proof=&plus=

Encased Coins are pressed into the Aluminum holder and are invariably damaged in the process. On the other hand, the coin in the original holder does have a collector value-probably at least $3.00 based on ebay sales.

Don't take it out.
Rest in Peace

Chances are you can damage the coin by trying to take it out . The condition of the coin rests on what condition it was originally when it was first placed in that holder . It might be shiny as heck now but full of bag marks .

Leave as is. Someday it will be worth more if not damaged.

I would say it may be airtight. And what do you mean by aluminum holder? It's just sitting in that thing freely.

I would suggest the above advice on leaving it as is. If you must, use a Dremel with a wheel attachment and approach it from two opposites sides. Slooowly. Stop about a 1/16" from the coin to avoid hitting it, then bend until separated. But to answer your question, yes. Only in MS68 or higher.

It is most likely worth more as it is as a collectible than the coin would be removed.
