Hello all,

Was thinking of buying my first gold US coin and this one may be purchased. I am aware that these are a huge gamble. I have some pics. If anyone can see any red flags #128681; I would be very grateful for the help.

Thank you for all your help.

Hi Spence,

The owner threw it on some non calibrated kitchen scales and it came up 4 grams.

Is this my first red flag......

Cheers

Well it is a little hard to say as it the mint spec is 4.18 g and this kitchen scale reasonably might be off by that amount. With that said, I would run away if you have any red flags with this purchase at all. IMHO, it is better to buy gold from APMEX or one of the other trustworthy companies (or buy it slabbed).

Looks genuine and AU-55 or 58, but I'd rather buy from a credentialed source as well.

Quite tempted to go for it. The owner is trustworthy.

May just gave to make my first of many numismatic mistake.

Thank you all for your advice. I'm about 75% commited.

No obvious red flags, but it's a heavily counterfeited date, and it can be hard to tell a fake even in hand.

There are a couple of item that I see as a red flags on the reverse. Look at the word UNITED and the top of the lettering to the edge of the OP coin and note the amount of space. Look at the STATES OF AMERICA there is no space from the edge of coin to to the top of lettering. The word UNITED looks like it is dropped down on the OP coin. Also the mint mark look off.
