So through my years of collecting, there are a couple types that when I come across, I always buy if I can. Even though I have examples already, and sometimes the specimens I already have are nicer than the newest new one, there is an allure and temptation in these such that I can never pass them up. For me, 1782 Chopmarked 8 Reales and 1982 die clashed nickels (the clash is very strong on both sides, but especially the reverse).
For others, what are your collection temptations that have lead to hoarding? Edited by Collects82 02/19/2020 12:08 pm

I'm primarily a collector of US coinage. But for some reason I am very tempted by any 1967 Canada goose dollar that passes by, and if it has even the slightest hint of die rotation I just have to have it!

1858 Canada 20 cent... I just love it. Only minted for one year and there are some terrific varieties - all the blundered Is and repunched letters.... I've got 8 of them....

Nice uncirculated War Nickels at good prices are hard for me to pass up.

Pretty much any Indo-Sassanian, but in particular the very specific variety that my avatar belongs to I recently added about a dozen more - except for the fleeting inventories of dealers, I likely have the largest collection of this particular variety that has existed since they were a contemporary circulating issue. I can't get enough of them - and it helps that no two are alike! I still need to sift through my hoards of CRH finds - a few years ago I dumped over $100 face value of copper cents, but I am not confident I would find it so easy to part with my 1940s nickels!

I still save every bicentennial quarter I find even though I know there is exactly zero premium for them (and there always will be).

Quote: I still save every bicentennial quarter I find even though I know there is exactly zero premium for them (and there always will be). I can imagine! I have a special box at home where I put all the Saint-Petersburg mint 10 ruble coins (...the 2010 ones, anyway; the other years are so extremely rare that I don't bother checking) that I find in circulation. (There's about 50 coins in that box, but a new one had not been added in several months; I don't use cash that much any more, and even when I do, this date doesn't show up very often.)

One could say I started collecting coins as a kid in the 90s. I kept every Bicentennial Quarter, Wheat cent, and Pre 1960s nickel I came across in change. Still have most of them from when I was a kid packed away somewhere. The Drummer Boy is such a wonderful design, and the ages of the Wheat Cents and old nickels was always fascinating. @Joe2007 and @hfjacinto I agree the Flying Eagle cents are stunning coins. I only have a couple low grades I picked up as a newbie back in the day, but I think they are great. I understand the appeal. @Finn235 Those Indo-Sassanian are magnificent! If one of them was an '82, I'd stop in my tracks too!
