Hi I have this coin that was purchased at a country auction here in Nova Scotia and came from an estate of an American family's country estate .. it was in a box lot of copper coins ... it is a draped bust coin with a die crack very evident and the date is tough to identify but under the magnifying glass it is from 1799 looking for info on this please... The die fracture goes from the lower center of the coin through the fraction 1/100 from the 0 in 100 right 0 through the fraction line through th 1 and on through the E in united from rim to rim... Don't torture me people as I'm new at this and having trouble posting pics will keep trying..Thanks for comments

this photo does't do the date justice but under the right light conditions with my scope you can clearly see 1799

That is a 1798 S-166. The die crack is a diagnostic for the variety.

Definitely worth something, but not nearly as much as a 1799!

Looks like a decent VG reverse and a good obverse, some areas of porosity on the obv left of the bust, perhaps. Probably USD $50-$100 or a bit more at auction. S-166 is one of the most common varieties for the date. Still a wonderful find, even if it's not a 1799!

Now that is a cool coin!
Gotta love how much knowledge is out there with the collectors of early US coppers! I've had a literal worn disc of metal that some of the experienced EAC'ers have been able to narrow down a possible date and variety from. I've been studying EAC and been a member for half a decade now and still feel lost half the time. The EAC is a long dark rabbit hole.
