I picked this one up at a show last weekend from an EAC dealer. I was not looking for it, but I just had to have it especially after the dealer made a nice offer. The color is a bit off making it look too light, it is a nice chocolate color with some darker patina around the devices. IMO, this is an exceptional low grade example due to the nice centering, smooth planchet, and lack of corrosion. The only mark of note is a small scratch by the date.

Let me have some grades, and for extra credit- see if you can attribute it and give an EAC grade as well

Rest in Peace

That "low grade" coin is nicer then most of the coins in my collection!!

I think this is an F12 coin but I have not realy looked at the grading standards for them, I'm just going by my gut feeling.

I'll go along with a VG-10 grade. This appears to be the S-288 type, with the 8 and the second 1 in the date crowding close together.

I don't know how EAC grades differ from current top TPG standards, except that they are usually a lot lower. I'll guess this would only be a Good-4 coin by those stricter standards.

I'm still looking for a nice Classic cent for my type set. I'm shooting for a PCGS-slabbed example, since I don't trust my ability to spot slight corrosion or cleaning damage on these early coppers. Solid examples with eye appeal are tough to find!

I agree with the VG-10 grade by ANA standards.

The lack of obverse hair detail and weak reverse rim keep it out of Fine.

Whatever the grading standard, that's a very attractive large cent!

great looking coin . VG-10 but I would expect a dealer to mark it F-12 and "choice".

I purchased this one from Tom Reynolds, a well known EAC dealer. He attributed it as S-288 and graded it EAC VG7. It looks like many are in agreement with my assigned grade of VG10. I would love to call it F12(and the price jump that goes with it) but the ear and lower curl details need to be a bit stronger. It had a listed price of $165 but Tom was packing up when I arrived, saw that I was drooling over it and offered it to me for $150 so he could make one last sale.
