I picked up another nice type coin at the Silver Dollar Show in St. Louis(yeah, I know- I was at a silver dollar show and didn't buy a single one.... ) I kind of goofed on this one- I actually meant to get a dime not a half dime but oh well, it was still a slight upgrade to what I already had. I tried some axial lighting on this one to show the toning- russets, ambers, and yes- greens That is toning on protected mint luster, not PVC or corrosion.

This looks like an EF-40 coin. There appears to be a bit too much wear over the wreath and on Liberty's head to go any higher.
The green patches look a bit suspect to me, but maybe that's the lighting. If you are confident that these areas are natural tone, that's good enough for me!

Choice VF. Appears to have been cleaned at one time and retoned.

I grade this VF-35.
It's close to EF, but the shield and LIBERTY details are just a little weak for that grade.

EF, presumably weak strike. Should be more detail on the reverse given how strong the obverse is.

Judging by the grades, it appears that my axial lighting photography could use some work Unfortunately, the pics turned out way too bright and washed out some of the details. The patina is composed of russets and steel grey with iridescent greens and ambers in the areas of protected luster. I do not believe that it has been cleaned, but then again, if I just had those pics to go by I would probably say it might have been cleaned as well. All of the obverse stars are fully separated in the center and Liberty's head is sharp. I graded this one EF45 for the obverse and VF35 for the reverse for a net grade of EF40 and the price paid was $50. I believe that this coin was possibly struck with an old reverse die and a fresh obverse die because the wreath it fairly flat but the obverse has hammered details, albeit with obvious wear.

If I may make a suggestion try not to use a flash or artificial light directly on the coin next time try natural lighting or defused lighting it will help in the detail in the coin just trying to help It looks to be a vf35
